Betty Lou Treichel Obituary

Betty Lou Treichel, 85, of St. Joseph, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family and loved ones.

Betty was born on January 30, 1939, to Harry & Elizabeth (Lucker) Hermann in St. Joseph. In 1956, she graduated from St. Joseph High School and then continued her education earning her associate degree as an X-Ray technician. On March 30, 1957, she married the love of her life and teenage-sweetheart Ronald Treichel at Zion United Church of Christ - St. Joseph. Betty worked as a special procedure technician for Lakeland Regional Center for over 30 years before her retirement in 1998.

In her earlier years, her time was mostly spent riding her Gold Wing motorcycle for over 100,000 miles with Ron. They traveled all across the United States on their Gold Wing as well as in their RV. Their time was well-spent exploring United States National Parks, and then later on camping and going to Disney with her family. Betty enjoyed reading, spending time outside in the sunshine, playing with her three kitties, and enjoying sweet treats in her later years.

She was known for her big heart, sly humor, and being a wonderful caregiver to her friends and family. Her most treasured time was spent with her family, especially her granddaughter. As a retiree, she was able to raise and spend every day with her granddaughter. From picking her up at school every day, taking her to various sports practices and games, to always having sweet treats for her and her friends at her house: she was a grandmother-figure to many. She devoted her life to her husband, daughter, granddaughter, and great-grandchildren.

Betty’s family would like to thank the hospice nurses and special friend Nakina for taking amazing care of Miss Betty.

Betty is survived by her husband of 67-years, Ronald Treichel; daughter Vicki (Michael) Hosier; granddaughter Jordyn Elsner; and brother Gordan Hermann. Betty was blessed with four great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren through marriage. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry & Elizabeth Hermann and three siblings, Harry Hermann, Robert Hermann and Margurite Thierbach.

Please, eat your dessert first today for Betty, as that was her favorite part of any meal, and would often come before the main course.

In honor of Betty’s loves for cats, memorial contributions may be made to Hidden Acres, 50582 Pleasant Street, Dowagiac, MI 49047.
