Boogie-woogie piano and swing come to the Box Factory

Featuring pianist, singer and songwriter Matthew Ball

Matthew Ball, aka “The Boogie Woogie Kid,” will perform Sunday, May 19, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Box Factory for the Arts, 1101 Broad St. in St. Joseph.

Ball presents an upbeat program of New Orleans song, boogie-woogie piano, and swing-era favorites like “In The Mood,” “It Had to be You,” “Georgia,” “What a Wonderful World,” “Bumble Boogie,” and many more. His performance embodies a toe-tapping piano athleticism that captures the spirit, fun, and tradition of a celebrated American music heritage.

"Matthew had heads bobbing, toes tapping, and tushes wiggling, leaving you in awe as his fingers flew across the keys!" reported the Saginaw News.

With five million YouTube views and performances throughout the U.S. and abroad, the Boogie Woogie Kid—a lifetime Metro-Detroiter—has distinguished himself as an internationally recognized practitioner of classic American song.

Tickets can be purchased online for $12 each at https://ticketstripe.com/boogiewoogiekid2024. Walk-in tickets are $15. Admittance is free for children 12 and under. A cash bar and light refreshments will be available.

NOTE: The Boogie Woogie Kid follows the opening reception for the “MAAC in the Box” exhibit at the Box Factory for the Arts earlier the same day. The Michiana Annual Art Competition showcases works by nearly 100 of the finest artists in the region. The reception, from 2 to 4 p.m. on May 19,  is open to the public free of charge.
