Kevin Gene Smith Obituary

Kevin Gene Smith passed away September 6, 2021. He was born in Benton Harbor, MI on December 29, 1962, to Ross “Sonny” Smith and Mattie Kathryn Smith. He was the oldest of four siblings.

Kevin grew up in Hagar Shores, MI and attended Coloma High School. He played various sports in school but was most known for his records set in track and field. He served in the US Army from 1980 to 1982. He was a heavy equipment operator and retired from Operating Engineers Local 324.

Kevin loved spending time with family and friends hunting, fishing, and camping. The thing he loved most was spending time on the beaches of Lake Michigan. He looked forward to the annual family trip to deer camp in Manistee, he was usually the first one there and last one to leave.

He took pride in his skills of grilling and cooking southern food. He even tried to give tips to his mother which never went over well. He could make the best venison chili and corn bread.

He loved and adored his three children, Lee, Danielle, and Andrew. He could never tell them no. As children He would buy them anything they wanted, motorcycles, snowmobiles, go-carts, and every Barbie ever made. Kevin lost his oldest son Lee after a tragic accident, something he never got over.

He is survived by his daughter, Danielle Ramirez, his son, Andrew (Alyssa Phares)Gregson, his grandson Hunter Gregson, his father, Ross Smith, three sisters, Kim (Randy) Thompson, Kelly ( Ron) Beam, and Karla Smothers, and a longtime friend Denise Londowski.

He was preceded in death by his mother, his son Lee C Smith, and a son in law Omero Ramirez.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 19th at 2:00pm at Lake Michigan Beach Community Church 3481 Ohio St, Coloma, MI 49038. Following the service, a dinner will be served at the family home located at, 43559 CR 681, Lawrence, MI 49064 beginning at 5:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Kevin, may be made to the funeral home to assist the family with expenses.
