Thomas Lavern Ketcham Obituary

Thomas Lavern Ketcham, age 87, of Benton Harbor, Michigan passed on, at home, Tuesday May 18th, with his beloved wife of 67 years, by his side.

Tom was a father, grandfather and great grandfather who loved his family and friends. A Marine during the Korean War, Tom had the distinct honor of serving as the Captain’s Orderly while stationed aboard the USS Los Angeles. Tom was employed by Russ Hyma Chevrolet in South Haven and Gene Wesner Chevrolet in Buchanan. He was self-employed for many years. He was an auto mechanic and enjoyed helping his friends and family with repairs and purchasing vehicles.

Tom is the oldest of 6 siblings, born on December 9th, 1933 to Verle Ketcham & Retha Bollman Ketcham Benson in Plymouth, Indiana.

He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings Edward Ketcham, Donald (AKA Duck) Ketcham, Jerry Ketcham and Beverly Ketcham Powers; sons, Michael Ketcham & Thomas Lee Ketcham and grand-daughter Kelly Ketcham Stoney Payne (Rob).

Tom is survived by his wife Alice (Velma) Marler Ketcham; brother Ronald Ketcham (Kristine) of Niles, MI; daughters Sharon Ketcham Meyers (Alan) of Pittsburg, PA & Terry Ketcham Stack (Matt) of Eau Claire, MI; grandchildren Riley Stack, Thomas J. Ketcham & Daniel Ketcham; great grandchildren Ameryne & Bryar Stoney, Caroline Payne and Thomas Justin Ketcham; many nieces, nephews & extended family.

Tom, known to be a loyal friend & good cook, enjoyed NASCAR, was a devoted Wolverine fan & animal lover. Tom will be remembered for his strength, toughness, and heart of gold…

There will be a family visitation at 1:00 pm Monday, May 24, 2021at Duffield & Pastrick Family Funeral Home in Coloma, MI.  Friends are invited to follow the 1:30 pm procession to North Shore Memory Gardens from the funeral home, or join us at the cemetery for the 2:00 pm military rites and chapel service.  A meal will be shared with those friends & family able to fellowship following the service; 4:00pm, 4790 Territorial Rd. Benton Harbor.
