Douglas D. Roemer Obituary

Mr. Douglas D. Roemer, age 69, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at his home.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 1 beginning at 2:00pm at the Benton Harbor Moose Lodge 1570, 2180 Union Ave, Benton Harbor, MI 49022. Moose Rites will be held at 3:00pm, followed by a luncheon and continued Celebration. Please feel free to share a memory with the family or sign Doug’s online guestbook at www.starks-menchinger.com.

Doug was born on September 13, 1954, to Theodore and Polly (Plucienik) Roemer in Benton Harbor. A lifelong resident of the area, Doug worked at Stewart Elementary School for 22 years. On August 15, 2009, he married Judy Roemer and she survives him.

Doug was a devoted University of Michigan fan and could always found cheering the football team on “Go Blue!” He had a knack for picking up sports quickly and being quite good at them. He bowled two perfect 300 games, golfed many outings with buddies and enjoyed playing baseball, eventually umpiring Little League games when he stopped playing.

Doug was a longtime member of Benton Harbor Moose Lodge 1570 where he had served on the board and enjoyed many dinners and functions with his Lodge friends. His “charming” humor was certainly known by all lucky enough to know him, along with his quick-witted comebacks.

Doug will be missed by his wife, Judy; daughter, Melissa Roemer and her son, James Hensley; son, Tedd (Brooke) Roemer and their daughter, Emma Roemer; stepson, James Swank; nephew, Darwin VanOrman and niece, Shelly VanOrman. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Patricia VanOrman.
