Grace Virginia Ginger Andrews, age 91, born on March 28, 1922, in Piggott, Arkansas, died on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at Woodland Terrace, Bridgman. She lived most of her life on the family farm on Date Road in Stevensville, Michigan, but spent her last years at Woodland Terrace, Bridgman.
She graduated from Holcomb High School, Holcomb, Missouri, in 1942. She married William Dean Andrews (deceased) on January 5th, 1944.
Daughter of the late Richard John Harris and Rosa Zetta Harp and Willie Clyde Nelson. She is survived by her daughters, Andy T. Andrews, Ginger Jeanette Andrews, Michelle Yvette Tuchman and Rochelle Yvonne Danjuma as well as her grandchildren, Ara Lucia Ashburne (formerly Heather Keegan Sandmann) and R. Orion Danjuma.
She served in Berrien County for thirty years in both the Treasury and County Clerks offices, with ever-increasing responsibility until her final role as Chief Deputy of Register of Deeds. She also served her community in the Berrien County Extension office and as a leader of a 4-H sewing club for 18 years. In the early 70s, she was the first woman admitted to the Y Lensers photography club. She won several prizes for her photography throughout the 70s; an image of the South Pier from Tiscornia was exhibited in the Kodak-sponsored Photo Expo 71 in Chicago.
Her passion for nature and love for all animals was known by all who knew her.
Visitation will be at Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Highway, Bridgman, Thursday, February 6, from 5pm until 7pm. The memorial will be held at Sarett Nature Center, 2300 Benton Center Road, Benton Harbor, Michigan, on Friday, February 7 at 12:30pm.
