Janet Claire Burress Obituary

Mrs. Janet Claire Burress, age 78, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at Hanson Hospice Center.

A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, July 16 at 11:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church, 619 Main St., St. Joseph, MI 49085. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 – 11:00 am at the church. Memorial contributions directed to Corewell Hanson Hospice Center or Trinity Lutheran Church in Janet’s memory would be appreciated. Janet was born on February 11, 1946 to Ernest and Clara (Mielke) Bischoff in St. Joseph. A lifelong resident of the area, Janet married Thomas Leon Burress on July 17, 1971. The two were blessed with 53 years of marriage before Tom “Leon” passed away in 2007. Janet worked at Zenith Data Systems for 20+ years before retiring. After retirement, Janet worked a variety of jobs to stay busy.

She was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was active in in the Altar Guild, Ladies Aid, and funeral committee. Janet loved spending time with her church family until her health no longer allowed her to attend services.

Janet is survived by her daughter, Amy (Jeff) Cashman; grandchildren, Dalton Purtha and Clara (Alex) Kibler; granddaughter, Riley Purtha; and sisters-in-law, Marge Bischoff and June Bischoff. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas; parents; and brothers, Don Bischoff, Stuart (Patricia) Bischoff, and Roger Bischoff.
