John William Stuber Obituary
John William “Jack” Stuber, 85, of St. Joseph passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at Corewell Health Lakeland, St. Joseph with his family at his side.
A celebration of life service will be held at 5 pm on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with Pastor David Schell of Fairplain Presbyterian Church officiating. Visitation will be held an hour prior, from 4-5 pm also at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place at a later date in City Cemetery, St. Joseph. Jack was born on June 20, 1939, to Herschel and Mary (Crothers) Stuber in Springfield, IL. He graduated from University High School in Normal, IL and continued his education at Illinois State University.
On December 19, 1958, he married Bertha Lou “Bert” Holt in Bloomington, IL. She preceded him in death on May 14, 2012.
Professionally, Jack dedicated over 35 years to the St. Joseph Community as an Allstate Insurance Agent. His optimism, charm, and genuine interest in others earned him great respect in his field and the community. He also served the community through Exchange Club, Civitan and recently Lest We Forget.
Throughout his life, Jack maintained a strong faith. He began singing in the Second Presbyterian Church choir in Bloomington, IL., and was a dedicated member at Fairplain Presbyterian Church in St. Joseph for more than 60 years, serving in various roles including Elder, Deacon, choir member and being on the finance committee.
An avid golfer, Jack shared his love for the sport with both of his sons. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family and supported them in all their pursuits.
Jack is survived by his sons, John “Mark” Stuber of Benton Harbor, Michael (Dina) Stuber of Troy, MI; grandchildren, Ryan, Kelsie and Renee Stuber; sister, Jean Heck and longtime companion, Karen Brandt. In addition to his parents and wife, Jack was also preceded in death by his sister, Janice (Rolla) Brown and brother-in-law, Leroy Heck.
