In 1949 he joined Mr. Roy Anderson as the sole employee of Anderson Building Materials Company.  Upon Mr. Anderson’s death in 1962, he became the owner and President of the company, positions currently still held.

Charles was a member of Methodist Peace Temple, St. Joseph First United Methodist Church, Scottish Rite in Grand Rapids, and the Berrien County Shrine Club. He was a lifelong member of the Lakeshore Masonic Lodge where he was a 32nd degree mason. He was one of the first members of the St. Joseph Improvement Association and has been a Director of the organization since the 1960’s. Charles was on the Board of Directors of the People’s State Bank, Civitas, Pinnacle and 5/3rd Bank.

Charles was truly a gentleman as well as a gentle man.  He loved his family and friends and was a very hard worker and a wonderful provider, who built Anderson Building Materials into the company it, is today.   He was known as a very loving, kind and caring man that always had time to talk and to make the other person feel good about themselves.  He had a welcoming smile and made friends easily.  He will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, who will be missed by all.  As he would always say, “How about that”, and “Peace!”

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Loismarie; sons Greg (Marian) Edinger of St. Joseph and Jack (Cathy) Edinger of St. Joseph; grandchildren Ryan (Carly) Edinger of St. Joseph, Kristin (Michael) Ritter of Barrington, RI, Michelle (Kyle) Karnes of Grand Rapids and Jaclyn Edinger of Grand Rapids; great grandchildren Owen Ritter, Evie Ritter and Luke Edinger and numerous nieces and nephews.
