Death Investigation in the Berrien County Jail

DATE/TIME OF INCIDENT:  November 20, 2021 at approximately 8:55 AM

LOCATION OF INCIDENT:  Berrien County Jail  919 Port Street, St Joseph MI 49085 

 

AGENCIES INVOLVED:  Berrien County Sheriff’s Office Michigan State Police 5th District Special Investigation Section       WMed Office of Medical Examiner 

 

NARRATIVE: 

 

On Saturday, November 20, 2021 at approximately 8:55 AM a male inmate who was housed in the Medical wing of the Berrien County Jail was found deceased.  The inmate had previous medical conditions and was housed in a medical cell by himself.  Out of an abundance of caution the Michigan State Police were requested to conduct an investigation into the death in coordination with the WMed Medical Examiner’s Office.  

 

The deceased is David Cortez Wright, black male, 42 years of age, Benton Harbor MI 49022
