Carl Hulander

Carl Hulander, 87, of Stevensville, MI, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2014 at The Willows in St. Joseph.

 A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, August 4, 2014 at Stevensville United Methodist Church, 5506 Ridge Rd., Stevensville with Pastor Gordon Barry officiating. Friends may visit from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M., Sunday, August 3, 2014 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel and Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to Hospice at Home. Burial will be held 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI.  Those wishing to share a memory of Carl online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.

 Carl was born July 25, 1927 in Chicago, IL to Gustav & Mary (Grieb) Hulander. He graduated from North Muskegon High School in Muskegon, MI in 1945 and later earned an Associate’s Degree from Lake Michigan College in Benton Harbor, MI. Carl married Lilah Douglas on May 24, 1968 in Ionia, MI. He served his country in the United States Navy. Carl was a Post Commander for the Michigan State Police and was proud to help open of the first State Post in Benton Harbor. Carl enjoyed golfing, playing cards and fishing.

 Carl is survived by his wife of 46 years, Lilah; children, Bruce (Mary) Hulander of Grand Rapids, MI, Brad (Mary) Hulander of Ionia, MI, and Cynthia (Wayne) Carpenter of FL; grandchildren, Jessica, Cassandra, and Katelyn; brother, Donald Hulander of Muskegon, MI; sister, Arlene (Ronald) Hunter of CO; sister-in-law, Leah Fors of Grand Ledge, MI; and many nieces and nephews.

 Carl was preceded in death by his parents.
