Rachel D. Vargas Obituary

Rachel D. Vargas, 86, of Benton Harbor passed away Sept. 25, 2024 in Euless, Texas.

A funeral service will be held 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, Oct. 8 at Duffield & Pastrick Family Funeral Home in Coloma.  Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery in Hartford.  Those wishing to leave an online message of remembrance may do so at www.duffieldpastrick.com.

Rachel was born December 22, 1937 in Glenville, NC to Vas and Maxine Moore.  She was formerly employed by Carolina Mills, a sewing factory, in Sylva, N.C., Heath Zenith in St. Joseph and Kaywood in Benton Harbor for 20 years, retiring at age 61.  In her free time Rachel enjoyed going to yard sales and casinos, traveling, and going to the Flea Market in Chicago to sell produce.  She also loved spending time with her children and babysitting the grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband Rafael whom she married March 2, 1979, six children; Dean Franks of Franklin, N.C., Susan O’Neal of Rockford, Mich., Sherry Nicholson of Euless, Texas, Brent Franks of Cullowhee, N.C., Shane Franks and Rafael Vargas both of Benton Harbor.  Also surviving is a sister Margaret McDougal of St. George, Ga., a step sister Debbie Freels, a step brother Wendall Freels, 14 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter.

In addition to her parents, Rachel was preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters.
