Shirley Pittman Obituary

Shirley Pittman, age 93, passed away December 2, 2025 at 11:00 PM in Northville, Michigan.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 20 at 2:00 pm at Pathway Global Methodist Church, 2950 Lakeview Ave, St Joseph, MI. Visitation will be one hour prior to service, from 1:00 – 2:00 pm. The family has requested that those who wish to make a donation in memory of Shirley to make it in her name to the charity of their choice. Arrangements by Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI.

Shirley was born November 15, 1932 to Dorothy and Fred Barber in Pana, Illinois. She graduated from Springfield Hospital School of Nursing and attended University of Illinois.

On June 18, 1960 she married Jim Pittman whom she met in Ann Arbor, Michigan while he was completing his dental training as a pedodontist at the University of Michigan and she was employed as a nurse at the University of Michigan Hospital. Shirley and Jim were blessed with 58 years of marriage before she was widowed in 2018. Shirley lived in St. Joseph, Michigan since 1961 where she has enjoyed many friendships over the years and has been an active member of the community.

She continued to enjoy golf and bowling into her 90's. She was a member of the Monday musical, Friends of the Library, and a past member of Highcliff Terrace Garden Club and Civic Benefits. She is a member of the Pathway Global Methodist Church and has volunteered at the soup kitchen in Benton Harbor, Michigan for many years. She also volunteered in the past as a nurse at the Berrien County Fair.

She is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Longtine, married to Bryan Longtine, who live in Northville, Michigan and Brenda Nicholson, married to Don Nicholson, who live in Alpharetta, Georgia. She has three grandchildren, Kevin Nicholson, Sean Nicholson and Joanna Scarbrough. She also has three great-grandchildren, Desmond and Parker Scarbrough, and George Nicholson. She was preceded in death by her husband Jim Pittman and a daughter Teresa Lynne who died in infancy.
