ARS Summer Camps & Painting Workshops

ARS Arts & Culture Center is excited to offer its Summer Arts Camps for the 16th year in 2026, and its first year at the new location in Lakeside. This Summer, Teens and Tweens will be exploring PopArt from the 1950s-60s. Advertising, comic strips, consumer products; blurring the lines between high art and commercial culture. This art form serves as dialogue or commentary for contemporary expression. It elevates and transforms mundane objects to fine art with a tone of wit as opposed to “serious” art. Printmaking, mixed-media, highlighting Warhol, Lichtenstein, and Rauschenberg. Use of playful technique, repetition and social critique are key characteristics of Pop-Art. Bold, striking, embracing replication, mirroring society and ironic humor. A reception will be held for students to exhibit their artwork.

Oil Painting

Oil Painting 2-Day Workshops for adults with Mary Broccolo-Derr began this Spring and will continue into Summer with two dates currently available for Sign-Ups: July 17-18 and August 7-8 from 1-4pm. This class is designed for those with little to no experience in oil painting. While tailored for beginners, artists with some experience who wish to refresh their skills or simply enjoy the process are also warmly welcome. We will delve into a few advanced techniques. Over the course of several sessions you will learn essential techniques such as color mixing, brushwork, and composition, while exploring various subject matters. We will provide step-by-step guidance and personalized feedback to help you develop your skills and confidence. By the end of the course, you will have completed several pieces of artwork and gained a solid foundation in oil painting. Mary also hopes to explore painting "en plein air" (outdoors). Come and discover the joy of painting in a supportive and inspiring environment!
