After-Hours Movie: Project Hail Mary

A special after-hours movie night at the library!
Science teacher Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) wakes up on a spaceship light years from home with no recollection of who he is or how he got there. As his memory returns, he begins to uncover his mission: solve the riddle of the mysterious substance causing the sun to die out. He must call on his scientific knowledge and unorthodox ideas to save everything on Earth from extinction… but an unexpected friendship means he may not have to do it alone.
Movie Rating: PG-13
Popcorn will be available. Feel free to bring a comfy chair, if you wish.

Unpacking Odysseus Tuesday, September 8, 6:00pm
With Christopher Nolan's new film adaptation of The Odyssey in theaters now, educators Harry Campion and John Monaghan embark on their own epic journey to put the history, the original story, and the film in context. Campion and Monaghan taught Homer's epic poem for nearly 20 years in the Advanced Placement English Literature course at Grosse Pointe High School and this program will run very much like one of their classes. They have presented this program in different libraries across Michigan and it has been very popular. The Detroit News even ran an article on the program. We encourage seeing the film before attending the program. No registration required.

Backyard Birds with Fernwood Botanical Garden Wednesday, September 30, 5:30pm - 7:30pm
From shorebirds to songbirds, Southwest Michigan has an incredible diversity of avian species. In this program, Fernwood Botanical Gardens Director of Education, Michelle McKoskey, will teach us about the most common birds in our region.
