Computer Training for the public
A significant event will occur in the computer world this spring. On April 8
Microsoft is planning to stop providing security patches and updates for
Windows XP. Using XP on the internet after that point will be risky. Trent
Watford, owner of Tech Help, is helping individuals and businesses prepare
for the end of XP support by offering a helpful workshop. (Tech Help is a
local business providing computer training, consulting and service.)
This 90-minute workshop will help you understand how to determine if your XP
computer can be upgraded to a newer operating system. If it can’t, you will
learn how to choose a new or refurbished computer. You are welcome to bring
your XP laptop or desktop to the workshop to have it evaluated. The three
workshops currently scheduled are for: Wednesday, January 29, 10:30 am-noon
at Marketing Partners (2919 Division St., St Joseph); Thursday, February 20,
noon-1:30 pm at Marketing Partners (Lunch & Learn—bring your lunch!);
Thursday, March 6, 7-8:30 pm (part of the Lakeshore Community Enrichment
Program and held at Lakeshore High School). You can get more information and
sign up for a workshop at www.techhelptraining.com.
Some people have already left XP and purchased a new computer. If the new
computer has Windows 8, there may be frustration over the changes. Therefore,
Tech Help is also offering assistance to get people over the learning hump
and back to being productive with their computer. Windows 8 training is
available on Monday, February 3, at Lincoln Township Library; and Mondays,
April 14 & 21, at Lakeshore High School. More details about these classes are
available at www.techhelptraining.com or by calling Trent at 269-430-3322.
