Fatal House Fire on the 7200 block of True Rd. Berrien Township.

On 1/20/15 at 10:38hrs, the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol, the Michigan State Police, and the respective Fire Departments were dispatched to the 7200 block of True Rd. (Township of Berrien) on a reported structure/house fire.

Deputy Roger Johnson of the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office was the first individual to arrive on scene and he found the residence to be fully engulfed in flames.

After the fire was extinguished by the Fire Department’s the first responders (law enforcement and fire department personnel) discovered a deceased body inside of the residence.

The Michigan State Police Fire Marshall then responded to the scene to assist in the investigation.

The body of the deceased was removed from the scene and transported to a medical examiner’s office for an autopsy, which will be completed in the next couple of days.

The name of the deceased is being withheld at this time, pending positive identification and notification of next of kin.

The investigation into the cause of death and the cause and origin of the fire is still under investigation.
