On 11/5/14 at approximately 05:13hrs, the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to a vehicle accident at M-139 Hwy. and Miners Rd. (Township of Royalton), and while the deputies were enroute to that location, they were advised that three males had fled from the scene on foot.

Deputies from the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office as well as officers from the Benton Township Police Department and the Saint Joseph Township Police Department then arrived on scene and the Deputies discovered that the three male subjects had just committed a Home Invasion in the 6600 block of M-139 Hwy., and that the homeowner (a 28 year old female) had confronted the three individuals and chased them from the scene in a vehicle pursuit north-bound on M-139 Hwy, when the three male subjects allegedly began to fire a handgun at the victim, who was still chasing them.

The vehicle, which was occupied by the three male subjects then crashed (single vehicle) at M-139 Hwy. and Miners Rd. and the three individuals then fled the scene on foot.

Deputies and a tracking canine from the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department were then able to locate all three individuals and all three individuals were taken into custody.

The Deputies also located and seized one handgun, which was believed to have been used in this incident.

Various personnel from the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department consisted of members of the Criminal Investigation Unit, Road Patrol, Evidence Technicians, and Accident Investigation Unit.

All three individuals were lodged at the Berrien County Jail on charges of Home Invasion 1st Degree and Assault with Intent to Murder and they are scheduled to be arraigned in the Berrien County Trial Court on November 6, 2014.

During this investigation, members of the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department were able to determine that the three individuals had specifically targeted this residence and that this was not a random act.
