Krasl Arts Center Receives
Berrien Community Foundation Grant to aid Ceramics Studio
Krasl Art Center is the recipient of a “For Good Grant” provided by the Berrien County Community Foundation. The grant, one of the foundation’s “major” grant opportunities, provided $7,000 to offset the cost of the Krasl’s new and much needed pugmill for its ceramics studio. The new pugmill will allow the studio to progress with a more sustainable model, reducing labor for studio technicians, reducing overall waste, and allowing for better quality and clay recycling.
“Our ceramics classes tend to be our most popular,” said Nathan Margoni, Krasl’s director of education. “Our studio is lovingly cared for but is certainly showing signs of its popularity. The new pugger mill is sorely needed and will save a tremendous amount of labor and waste, and allow our educators more time for genuine guidance and instruction in the studio. We are incredibly thankful for the thoughtful generosity of our friends at the Berrien Community Foundation for this gift, and look forward to continuing to expand and improve our ceramics studio.”
The Krasl Arts Center Ceramics Studio serves more than 150 adult students and at least 80 children annually. In 2025, students and ceramics guild members used more than 8,400 lbs of clay.
Krasl Art Center’s education programs range from tuition-based studio classes to public events and community partnerships. A common philosophy unites these programs, emphasizing four core strategies: creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment, providing student-centered learning, connecting art to life, and affirming process over product.
