LEGO ENTHUSIASTS: A BIG CITY BUILD, BUILDERS’ BASH AND AN AMAZING LOCAL DISPLAY ARE COMING TO SILVER BEACH CENTER

If you or someone you know loves LEGO bricks, Silver Beach Center in St. Joseph is where you will want to be from late February to April 7. The Center’s Silver Beach Carousel, Curious Kids’ Discovery Zone and Shadowland on Silver Beach Ballroom are partnering to create one of the biggest, free LEGO events in West Michigan.

The fun starts immediately with a callout to all DUPLO and LEGO builders, ages 5 to 18. Young brick stackers can enter their LEGO, DUPLO or Technic creations built from kits or their imaginations in the Silver Beach Carousel’s Amazing LEGO Display. It is not a judged competition, so every entry is a winner.

To register, entrants can fill out the online submission form at silverbeachcarousel.com/bywat and include a photo of the build. Registration closes when the Carousel receives 150 entries or on Feb. 23, whichever occurs first. Entry drop-offs are on two weekends, Feb. 17 and 18 and Feb. 24 and 25, noon to 5 p.m.

Each registered builder will get a participation certificate and an invitation to the 2024 Builders’ Bash on Feb. 28, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Carousel. During the Bash, builders will get unlimited FREE Carousel rides, plus a swag bag and a chance to “walk the red carpet” for some personal photos. Builders can bring their family and friends to see their work and enjoy the festivities. The Amazing LEGO Display will run from March 2 to April 7 during Carousel hours.

The Silver Beach Center’s biggest event will be the 2024 Big City Build, March 2 and 3, in Shadowland on Silver Beach Ballroom. From noon to 5 p.m. each day, visitors can see Western Michigan LEGO Users Group’s newest array of West Michigan buildings and landscapes built from thousands of colorful bricks. Adding to the enjoyment, multiple model trains will weave in and out of the display.

The Big City Build will fill the ballroom and include tables with specialty builds, LEGO items for sale and a build-your-own brick stacking area.

ABOUT SILVER BEACH CAROUSEL

Silver Beach Carousel (circa 2010) features 48 beautifully hand-carved and hand-painted, unique figures and two chariots (one is wheelchair accessible). They whirl beneath 1,000 twinkling lights. Around the top of the carousel are 18 rounding boards that tell the area’s rich history with computer-colorized, vintage photographs. Many believe this to be the first carousel in the world to use photographs instead of paintings on its rounding boards.

The Carousel House is home to the Brass Ring Gift Shop. It also has the Silver Beach Amusement Park Museum with interactive displays and memorabilia from the park that closed in 1971. Visitors can enjoy board games, children’s activities, an electric miniature train layout and concessions.

Other attractions within Silver Beach Center are the Shadowland on Silver Beach ballroom and Curious Kids’ Discovery Zone. Visit www.silverbeachcarousel.com or call 269-932-1141 for hours and more information.
