Miss Heart of Blossomtime

On Sunday January 11th, Lawton resident Kristin Cody received the honor of representing her community as Miss Heart of Blossomtime before a packed house.  The Miss Heart Pageant originated in 1992 offering young women living in communities that do no host a hometown pageant the opportunity to compete for the title of Miss Blossomtime.  Some of these communities are, Allegan, Decatur, Dowagiac, Covert, Fennville, Lawton, Mattawan, Marcellus, Three Rivers, Vicksburg and surrounding communities in Southwest Michigan.

As Miss Heart of Blossomtime, she will join her sister queens competing for over $18,000 in Scholarships in the Miss /Mr. Blossomtime Pageants.  The 2015 pageants will be held on March 8th and 9th 2015 at the Lake Michigan College, Mendel Center.

This year’s winner Kristin Cody is a student at Lawton High School and the daughter of Denise and Harold Cody.  Upon graduation she plans on earning her nursing assistant license this summer and to attend Grand Valley University, and gain acceptance into their physician’s assistant program.  She is an honor roll student, member of National Honor Society, National Technical Society, cross country captain, , captain of the Varsity Cheerleading team and four year Varsity Athlete.

Earning the title of 1st Runner-Up was Alyssa Wainwright. Alyssa is a dual enrolled student at Howardsville Christian School and Southwestern Michigan College. Alyssa is the daughter of Julie and Eddie Wainwright.  After graduation she plans on earning her degree as an Ultra Sound Technician.  She was awarded Dancer of the Year 2013, honor roll student the past 3 years, school spirit award 3 years.

Awarded the title of 2nd Runner Up and Miss Congenitally is Brooke Hollingsworth. Brooke is a student at Buchanan High School and dual enrolled at Lake Michigan College. Brooke is the daughter of Tina Wynn and Tom Hollingsworth.  Upon graduation from college Brooke would like to be a nurse practitioner. Brooke has received 4 year varsity award, coach’s award in softball and cheerleading.

Also competing for the title of Miss Teen Blossomtime that evening 16 contestants ranging in ages from 13 to 15.  Crowned Miss Teen Blossomtime 2015 was Alana Miller of Niles.  She is a 9th grade student at Buchanan High School and the daughter of Brittany Deane and Jeff Miller.  Her first runner-up is Kayla Flanagan of St Joseph.  She is a 8th grader at Upton Middle School and the daughter of Jacquline and Steven Flanagan.  Second runner-up is Olivia Ziemer of Hartford.  She is an 9th grader at  Hartford High School and the daughter of Michelle and Robert Ziemer. Miss Teen Congeniality is Hailey Marbut of  Hartford.  She is a 9th grader at Hartford High School and the daughter of Kippie Marbut.

Twenty three young ladies between the ages of 10 and 12 competed for the title of Miss Junior Teen Blossomtime Sunday evening as well.  Earning that title was Madisen Kozminski of St. Joseph.  She attends Lakeshore Middle School and is in the 6th grade. She is the daughter of Dayna and Kenneth Zozminski. First runner-up is Hannah Bogner of Baroda.  She is homeschooled and is the daughter of Cindy and Robert Bogner.  Second runner up is Carsyn Franz from Niles.  She attends Eastside Connections and in the 4th grade. She is the daughter of Jennifer Riggenbach and Tim Franz.

Tying into the 2015 Festival theme “Rhyme Time with Blossomtime” with the pageant theme Rain Rain Go Away. The chairmen of the pageant are; Pam Kublick – Miss Heart and DeAnn Zindler – Miss Teen and Miss Junior Teen.  Phil McDonald was emcee.
