Southwest Michigan Regional Airport Hosts Storytime This Tuesday
Children and families are invited to the Southwest Michigan Regional Airport Tuesday, October 20, at 6:30 p.m. for Storytime on the Flight Line, an evening of reading, aviation and creative fun.
Guest readers will include Chokwe Pitchford, 3rd District Berrien County Commissioner; Miyah Michelle, Miss Benton Harbor 2026; Alex Little, Benton Harbor City Manager; Ardale Clark, founder of Beyond Limits Entertainment; and DaShuna Robinson, Benton Harbor Area Schools Board President.
Local nonprofit Sisters From Another Mother will lead a creative activity for young guests. Families can enjoy storytime and see the airport in a welcoming setting at the terminal, located at 1123 Territorial Road in Benton Harbor.
Organizer Katie Grosso created the program to give children a safe, engaging first step into aviation. After seeing community events at other small airports, she wanted to make space for local families, including those with young children, to feel comfortable visiting the airport.
“I think that any kind of cause for everybody to be here together is a step in the right direction,” Grosso said. “Any time that you can bring people through the doors or bring people to the airport and create a space that they can be in safely makes them feel welcome.”
During the Airport Authority Board meeting on Thursday October 15th, Interim Airport Director Bruce Allee and board members recognized Grosso for envisioning and organizing the event.
“Tuesday night’s Storytime on the Flight Line has been a great addition to our activities,” Allee said. “She deserves all the credit for envisioning it, putting it together, and bringing people together. We want to thank you. We’re lucky to have you.”
