Traffic congestion/Bridge work on M-139

Due to bridge work on the M-139 (old 31) bridge over the St. Joseph river in Berrien Springs by MDOT, traffic in the downtown area of Berrien Springs will be congested.  This MDOT project is slated to last until around June 6th.

Traffic yesterday afternoon going South was backed up for over one mile waiting to go out of town.  North bound traffic had similar delays during that same time span of 3-6pm.

MDOT has increased the green light time for SOUTH bound traffic effective today and will increase that time when they leave the work site in the late afternoon.  MDOT can adjust the  NORTH bound green light time in the AM during the morning “rush hour” as needed.

During peak travel times, (7-8am and 3-6pm) an alternate route should be considered.   DO NOT block intersections if you are in the line of traffic. Make sure you can clear and intersection before crossing it when in a line of slow moving traffic.
