Barb was born on February 13, 1935, to Fred and Florence (Sommerfelt) Huff in Cleveland, OH. She graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1953. Following graduation, she began working at Farmers Merchant Bank. On September 17, 1955, she married Leonard Osterman. They shared 24 years together before his passing on August 19, 1979.
As their family grew, Barb devoted herself to raising their three children and caring for their home. When her children were older, she returned to work, spending several years at Lakeshore Elementary School in the kitchen. In 1971, she began working at Sears in Battle Creek for nearly twenty years. After moving back to the St. Joseph area, Barb worked at St. Joe Printing company before eventually retiring.
Above all, Barb loved her family deeply. She was a private and gentle person who preferred peace over confrontation. Barb was also incredibly generous and giving, always willing to help those she cared about.
Barb is survived by her children, Phillip (Debbie) Osterman, Linda Engel and Kurt (Barbara) Osterman; grandchildren, Travis Osterman, Tyler Osterman, Michael (Jessica) Engel, Arielle (Erik) Waterbury, Joseph (Addy) Osterman and Timothy (Maddie) Osterman; great-grandchildren, Logan, Lola, Lucy, Milli, Lillyanne, Leo, Clint, Wyatt and Maren; sister, Carole (Larry) Gracer and sister-in-law, Bonnie Huff.
