Carol Jo-An Momany Obituary

Carol Jo-An (Miller) Momany died peacefully in St. Joseph on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.

Carol was born on November 5, 1938 to Forest and Nellie (Brown) Miller in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Carol was a graduate of the Benton Harbor High School class of 1956. She was married to Ronald Momany on November 16, 1957 at the Peace Temple Methodist Church. They made their home in Benton Harbor. Carol became a paraprofessional when her boys were school age and continued a long career in elementary education. She was a strong advocate for education and the rights of individuals. She served as president of the Benton Harbor School District Paraprofessionals Union. Carol was instrumental in organizing and administering Peace Partners, an after-school tutoring and mentoring program for elementary students in Benton Harbor assisting in literacy support and the foundations of learning.

Carol enjoyed making scrapbooks of trips she had taken and time spent with family. Later in her life she became an avid quilter. She loved time at the beach and along the water. Most important to Carol was her time with family and friends. Carol had a special place in her heart for children, reflected by her life’s work.

Carol was a long time member of the Peace Temple United Methodist Church. Recently, she was a member of the Stevensville United Methodist Church.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband, parents, siblings: Forest Miller Jr, Jane Cuthbert, and Constance Matthai and a daughter in-law: Kimberly Momany. Carol is survived by her sons: Tim (Betsy) Momany and Chris (Elizabeth) Momany; grandchildren: Alex (Stephanie) Momany, Allison Momany (Tyler Stockman), and Christopher Momany; step grandchildren: Megan Cushman, Hannah (Phil) Garland, and Paige Cushman; 4 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.

A celebration of Carol’s life will be held at the Stevensville United Methodist Church, 5506 Ridge Rd., Stevensville, MI 49127, on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at 3:00 pm. The Rev. Elise Low Edwardson will lead the worship celebration. Friends may visit with the family at the church from 2-3 p.m. Sunday, October 4.

Memorials for Carol may be given to Stevensville United Methodist Church, the Benton Harbor Education Foundation, or a children’s educational charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 269-556-9450.
