Veda Mae Wright Obituary

Veda Mae Wright, 86, of St. Joseph went to be with the Lord Jesus on Sunday, September 27th, 2026 surrounded by her loved ones.

 

A celebration of life service will take place 11:00 A.M. Thursday, October 8th, 2026 at the St. Joseph Christian Reformed Church, 3275 Washington Avenue, St. Joseph, with Pastor John Devries officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Friends are welcome to visit Veda’s family on Wednesday, October 7th, 2026, from 5 - 7 PM at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Veda Wright was born on November 18, 1939 in Hayti, Missouri to James and Blanche Akins. After moving to Michigan, the Akins family settled in St. Joseph. Veda graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1957. She and her husband, Vernon Wright, married on January 18, 1958 in Bridgman, Michigan. They shared 61 years together before his death in 2019.

 

Veda was a woman of strong Christian faith. Her relationship with the Lord was an important part of her life, and she found comfort and strength in her faith throughout the years. She cherished her family and friends and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Veda was a devoted member of the St. Joseph Christian Reformed Church for 61 years.

 

She is survived by her children, Dale (Brenda) Wright of St. Joseph and Patrick (Cristi) Wright of Stevensville; sister Jenny (Bob)Vandewarker; grandchildren Bradley Wright, Katie Beth (Connor) Gentry , Cameron Wright, Madelyn Wright and Conner Wright; great-grandchildren Kenzo and McKenzie Murphy. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Blanche Akins; daughter Elizabeth, and siblings Jim, Richard, Harlan, Jerry and Denise Akins.
