Benton Harbor Faith Leaders Kick Off Souls to the Polls This Saturday
Benton Harbor faith leaders have partnered with Berrien Connection to kick off the Souls to the Polls early voting series at noon Saturday, Oct. 24, at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, 395 Jakeway, Benton Harbor, MI 49022. Organizers expect more than 200 community members and local elected officials. Cookie’s Five Star Grill will cater the kickoff.
The kickoff will offer voter information and rides to early voting locations. It is the first of six scheduled gatherings across Benton Harbor through Nov. 1.
“One of the most important things we can do as Americans is vote, and getting to the ballot box is critical for all of us,” said John Bonkoske, board president of Berrien Connection. “With Souls to the Polls, we’re able to bring people together and make a statement by going to the ballot box as a group. This election is critical, and I look forward to seeing Souls to the Polls continue.”
Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church will also host a gathering Sunday, Oct. 25. Pastor Carlton Lynch said the church is glad to welcome community members.
“Voting is one way we can help shape the future of our community. If we don’t vote, we know the outcome: We, as a community, lose. We’re glad to welcome our neighbors to Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church for Souls to the Polls, where people can get informed, connect with one another and find support getting to the polls,” Lynch said.
